L Dodd,indeed, his frolicksome spirits going far toward making these events the success that has always attended them, Not only that but between the gathering he keeps pegging away aud accumulates a store of historical and other information, which have g.ven to these assemblys a touch of classical interest. In his vacationsas one of the Justices of the District%of Columbia he has traced his ancestors and their contemporaries up and down the New England states, figuratively of course. He has crossed the pond and delved among the archives there, and his' researches resulted in the discovery of some spots of greatness and *near’ greatness. One of the last things he has turned up is that the Poet Whittier was~a connection of the family, Mrs. Ralph Barnard IS an accomplished soloist, and entertained those present with selections, among which was “Barbara Fritchie’’, a Whittier creation. It was splendidly given, one of the best renditions we have listened to.Ralph Barnard, acting president of the association made an address of welcome. The report of the secretary disclosed the fact that five members of the association bad-died since the last meeting, as follows: Delon-son Eiroy^ Barnard April 4, 1905; Oliver W. Barnard Aug. 14, 1907,Polly^ A. Maulsby, Dec. 12, 1908; .lohu Woodmus Park, Nov. 19, 1909; Edwin Pendleto Parker, Jan. 13,1910. With the death of Mrs. Maulsby the fourth branch became extinct. Since the last meeting the association has gained twelve members by marriage.. Several additions were made to the number listed in the last pamphlet, bringing the present number up to 15. Clinton Barnard was elected president of the association, Ralph Barnard, vice-president, Job Barnard secretary and Charles Barnard, treasurer.The meeting was the T5th anniversary of the settlement by William Barnard and his wife, lijleven chiiciren were born to them: Oliver W. Barnard, deceased; Nelson Barnard, deceased; Milo Barnard, deceased; Polly Barnard - Maulsby, deceased; Clinton Barnard,Shawnee,Ok.; Rhoda Barnard-''Velch-St. Clair, Valparaiso; Uriah W. Barnard, Oklahoma City, Ok.; EUzabethBarnard-Park, Cswego, Kas.: Job Barnard, Washington, D.0.: Rachel Baruard-Williatns, decgxs-ed; Milton C. Ptarnard, deceased. The ancestors of this family were members tif tire Center Monthly Meeting of Quakers, at New Garden, N. G.Mrs. Jennie Burner presided at the organ, and sweetly sang, “I’ll Wander Back Again.” Clinton Barnard made some remarks, and U. W. Barnard explained the uses of some domestic relics of early days. Scott principal and Miss§wint are the new teachers selected from among the best educators in the state. Misses Emma Baird, Helen Elood and Lois D. Brown are tlie grade teachers, all Laporte countyladies and second to none in theirwork.
