Continued from page 1this section of the City. It has been practically impossible to keep our homes clean and sanitary with these clouds of dust blowing into our premises. We were greatly relieved to read in this week’s Williamson County S un that C ity M anage r C harles E ye-ington said the water truck would begin its daily rounds. In the same issue of the SUN we also were pleased to know that the City was building a new dog pound where stray and unlicensed dogs may be impounded. For some time this problem has presented a real danger to all the citizens of Georgetown, and the building of the pound and the announcement that effective September 1, 1968, the City will begin enforcing its dog ordinance, is a helpful sign of progress. As the Texas Department of Health points out and stories from other parts of the state show, rabies remains a threat to life. Citizens who want to keep pets should be compelled to have their pets vaccinated. Now, we want to cite some grievances which have not received any attention of the City Officials as far as we have been able to determine:1. Poor lighting in the westside area. Insufficient lighting is not only true of the “old” areas but in the new Stone Haven area which represents an investment of more than a million dollars.2. Poor drainage. Complaints have been made about several especially bad conditions, as follows: (a) At Hart and 13th Street, water backs up into the Bailey property, (b) On 6th Street near the bluff and the cafe at that point, water backs up in the yard and runs underneath the cafe building, (c) Water runs off Timber Street and into the yard of the Nolbert Tanksley property and »Jong other places along Timber Street, (d) A big pool of water, many feet deep, has collected In a drainage hole at the end of 15th Street at the railroad tracks. This is a danger to childrenind is a breeding place for mosquitoes, (e)A hole at the end of the culvert at 11th Street and Railroad has no place to drain,3. Poor law enforcement. Attention of the police department has been called to the use of West Street between 4th and 9th Streets and the use of Timber Street between 2nd and 10th Streets, for drag races with attendant clouds of dust and danger to pedestrians. Speed zone signs should be erected in these locations and the law should be enforced. Breaches of the peace Dave been witnessed by the police without anforcement of the law.4. Very little has been done this summer for the recreation of our children, rhis is the time of the year when this ictivity should be emphasized. Our organization was formed two moDths igo for the purpose of obtaining full cooperation between the city officials and ;ity employees and the residents of this :ity. We stand ready to do our part in carrying out the responsibilities involved n solving these problems.
