Bailey and Mrs. Ethel Moore, asked the city to address itself to the problem of dust, to stray, unvaccinated dogs, to poor lighting, poor drainage in certain areas, poor law enforcement and more summer recreation for thechildren.A copy of the letter follows:Honorable Jay SloanDear Sir;In behalf of our organization called the Better Citizens League of Georgetown, we are writing to you to find out what can be done about certain grievances of citizens on the West side of this city.We are greatly concerned about the dust problem on the stone or gravel streets inContinued on page 2Fourteen members of the Georgetown Youth Council will be delegates to the Sixth Annual Texas Youth Conference August 22-25 at the University of Texas, under the sponsorship of 17 civic minded organizations and several individual citizens. The fee for the conferences and dormitory and board is $45 for each delegate.Delegates are Tib Dodson, SylviaDoer-mg, Lynnelle Benold, Tom l.effler. Mari-Mayor Sloan Says Most of Program Is Already UnderwayMayor Jay Sloan, contacted by the SUN in regards to grievances aired by the Better Citizens League of Georgetown this week, said the city was pleasd to see the citizens of West Georgetown becoming more interested in an improvement program for that area.Certainly, the city will cooperate m every way possible, and 1 feel much has already been done to remedy problems outlined in the letter and others not mentioned. We will place the letter on our agenda for the next council meeting for discussion, and if possible, for action. Anyone who wishes to attend and make a statement of fact is cordially invited.Drainage, Mayor Sloan pointed out, is a major undertaking and is one reason the city decided to go into the Urban Renewal program. Street lights, he added, are needed throughout the area and in many parts of the town. Within the financial capability of the city, new lights are being added and will be added.Certainly we want our laws enforced and the Better Citizens League Is to be complimented for its interest here. Excessive speed and the break mg of driving regulations within our city is to be enforced throughout our corporate limits.Frankly, I am surprised, however, at the complaint on summer recreation. While our program is not under the jurisdiction of the city, 1 have believed the Georgetown Program was above average. It is completely integrated and children were urged to participate. I feel the program is a good one, serving every segment of our population fairly and equally.**
