%Western frontHutchinson News Thurs., Aug. 21, 1980 Page 4It was fun and games at reunionThe St. Teresa Alumni Reunion was a tremendous success. I had a marvelous time. When the first class graduated they had a Junior-Senior banquet and dance, and agreed that they would get together for a reunion — but that never happened. The young women who first decided to try to get addresses of all graduates and try to have a reunion will have the never-ending gratitude of alt former students of St. Teresa’s. Ed Fitzgrafd, chairman, and all the committee members and ail the volunteers took on an almost impossible task to discover the names of all former students, even those who did not graduate, and all their addresses. The committee contacted over one thousand people. They hope to gain another five hundred during theircontinuing efforts, and to have a continuing dialogue through a Newsletter wnich is being started. The three days of reunion, with registering, re-acquainting, visiting, picnic, dance, dass-group pictures, and ending with a beautifully nostalgic Maas at St. Teresa’s, was such a successful, satisfying, overjoying experience. The five hundred people who attended can never thank the committee enough. People came from Texas, Colorado, New York, Nebraska, Missouri, California; Seattle, Washington was the farthest.Although I was the oldest former student at most of the functions, one lady eight grade graduate of 1917 who came Sunday is perhaps older. The oldest graduate honors went to Mrs. Esther Haas Hoffman — class of1923, Mrs. Hoffman does secretarial work for the Reno County Health-Center. I am a retired farmer but still help my nephew with his farm work by driving a truck. The award for the most children was received by Mrs. Evelyn Vincent Zink of Ellinwood. She has 14 children. When the award for the most grandchildren was announced, it was again Mrs. Zink with thirty-four grandchildren — of course she had help from all those children. Mrs. Zink graduated in 1934.The many people who came so very far felt the reunion was well worth their effort and expense. Mrs. Gertrude Weber Maher of Lincoln, Nebraska, had her wish fulfilled by playing organ for the Mass. She had played at St. T's for ten years during the 30s and early 40s.The only regrets expressed by everyone, were “we should have done this sooner, and the disappointment that many graduates and former students in the Hutchinson and Reno County area were not able to attend. Those coming from California and Washington and New York expected to see the local people. We thank Father John Mullen, without whose generous cooperation ail this would not have been possible.LEO SECK Class of 1923 Hutchinson(Note: St. Teresa Grade School started in 1902.
