Mr. and Mrs. Jacob HoemsenAlexander pair keep anniversaryALEXANDER (Special) Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoemsen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 3 at their home here. Family members as far awav as British Columbia were presentMr. and Mrs. Hoemsen were married in 1919 and came to Canada in 1925. farming first in Saskatchewan, then Ontario and finally at Griswold. On their retirement they settled in Alexander.They have six children, three sons and three d a u g h te r s, scattered across the provinces20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.A turkey dinner was held Aug. 2 in the lower auditorium of the Mennonite Brethren Church, with 30 members of the family present.Those attending were: Mrand Mrs Hugo Hoemsen and family, Regina, Sask.; Mr and Mrs. Peter Hoemsen and family, Elkhorn; Mr. and Mrs. Margenthaler (Betty), from Campbell River, B.C.; Mr. and Mrs. J Prestor (Kay) and family, Dryden, Ont.; Mr and Mrs. Silver (Margarita) and sons from Winnipeg; A son,Verner Hoemsen of Montreal, was unable to attend; Mr. and Mrs, A. Mathies, a sister of Mrs. Hoemsen, of Leamington, Ont.; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mathies, a grandson, and their daughter, from Leamington; Miss Joan .Silver, a granddaughter, of Ottawa, Ont.Flowers were presented to the couple from their family and many congratulatory cards and gifts were receivedMr. Hoemsen was unable to attend the celebration owing to being hospitalized after a fall July 24.Wednesday, August 2fl, 1*69, THE BRANDON SUN,Legion lounge opened at Carberry ceremonyand may your branch continue music for dancing. Howard Gaul and Jim Davidson of the advertising department acted as guides. The tour was arranged by Mrs. R. Smith and Mrs. F. Stott.The ladies also toured the garden of Mrs. C. Senkbeil and local 4-H gardens.CARBERRY (Special) - The ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the cocktail lounge at the Royal Canadian Legion Club rooms Main Street. Carberry was held Aug. 15.The upper and lower rooms were filled to capacity with local Legion members and members of Souris, Brar.don. and Portage Legion branches.C. R. Addison. presidrnt of the Royal Canadian Legion, Carberry branch, welcomed the PiiesLs. “Tonieht is a soeciaiin its work of community leadership. ”Mayor Calvert performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Prior to this he brought greetings for the town of Carberry. He commended the local branch and its ladies iary for the initiative shown in setting up the lounge.Mayor Calvert said.
