Tlie Marquis of Lome's .Tour.—The Marquis of Lome arrived at Rapid City, ICO miles beyond Winnipeg, on August 10, escorted by a force of mounted police under Colonel Herchiner, and proceeded on the following day to .Shoal Lake to meet Mr. Dewdney, the Indian Commissioner, who accompanies him wit a larger escort to Fort Ellice. The Governor-General has formed a very favouriible impression of the country he has passed through. The soil is fertile, the climate healthy, and the settlers everywhere pleased with their position and prospects. The viceregal party arrived at Fort Ellice, Winnipeg, on August 13,. and spent the afternoon in council with the Indian chief Salteaux and the Sioux. About 500 Indians altogether were present, some of whom came nearly two hundred miles to see the Governor-General. The Marquis gave a medal to the principal chief, and also presents for distribution among his followers. The number and prospects of the new settlers and the character pf the Gountry traversed aro favourably reported upon. - 1 . • -
