Dancy of Cameron county, long-time- advocate of the Bureau, placed him exactly positc his opponent in August 28 run-off, Lloyd Bentsen Jr.Last May Bentsen had stated that he was personally opposed to the project as proposed by the Bureau.In his letter to the Laredo ex-district attorney, Judge Dancy said he felt that the next Congressman would be a key man in working for theproject, if he were not “handicapped by his pre-declared opposition to it.”Kazen declared in his answer to Judge Dancy:“I personally favor obtaining the best possible Bureau of Reclamation project on thebest possible terms for theValley, and I favor the policy of placing a final project before the people to vote upon at as early a date as possible.” In addition to his stand on the project itself, Kazen again stated his previous stand inregard to the 160-acre limitation.“I believe the 160-acre limitation in our Reclamation Law should not be used as an ex cusc to dlt; feat the project.
