Floyd’s rolls to third KCL crownThe big red, white and blue machine of Floyd’s Stores won the whole thing in the Kern County League again this season.Floyd’s, down 2-0 in the first inning, rallied behind the hitting of Lloyd Dickey, Tony Kobliska and Bob Soto, to defeat the Bakersfield Batting Range, 6-3, and wrap up the best two-of-three playoffs in two games last night at Sam Lynn Park.In the three years that Don Richards’ has managed the club and assembled his group of experienced players, Floyd’s has won all three regular season championships and both playoff titles since the post-season concept was inaugurated last season. The Batting Range, a club that went a long way in its first KCL campaign, jumped off to a quick two-run lead in the first as Terry Denesha drew a walk off Floyd’s winning pitcher Fred Rowland and came home on a missle-shot over the leftfield fence by Jim Romo, the County League’s answer to Dave Kingman.Floyd’s bounced right back with one in the first when Tony Kobliska celebrated his 22nd birthday by leading off with a double and riding home on a single by the “old pro,” Lloyd Dickey.Floyd’s pulled ahead in the third when Kobliska singled, stole second and scored on Dickey’s liner to left-field that was misjudged into a double. Dickey, holding up on a Joe Dodder’s towering fly to deep center field that fell in, was thrown out at the plate. Dodder, who went to third on the play, came home on a single by Monday night’s hero. Bob Soto. The turning point in the game came in the Floyd’s fifth when Batting. Range manager Charles Pierce, who did a fine job with a young club all year, made a decision that backfired. After starter Tom Romo walked two batters, Pierce called for in experienced young reliever Kent Kauffman, who gave up a bloop single to Soto (the one hit of the inning) to fill the sacks.Kauffman then hit a batter and walked another to force in two runs. After a 3-0 count on Steve Brum-mer, lefthanded veteran Jerry Jones came on. After completing the walk to Brummer for another run. Jones struckout the next two batters to get out of the inning. But Floyd’s led 6-2 and a comebackby the Range in the sixth fell short, A walk and hits by Jerry Coles and BobSwan produced one run, but with no outs and runners on first and second, Rowland got Mike Wilcox to ground a 3-1 pitch into a double play that took the life out of a promising inning.Rowland got the side out in order in the seventh to give Floyd’s another Kern County League title and owner Floyd Bureham another sponsor’s trophy. The linescore:r « eBatting Range.............. 200 001 0—3 6 0Floyd'* Store*..............102 030 x—6 7 0T.
