^!A case, .showing. liutt iven -themost heartless occurrences, apparently, may Have their mitigating circumstances, camejto light last week. “On Thursday evening constable Wood, of Corry, arrived in, tJie city with a woman, who was committed to jail in default of §200 bail, uphn a charge of deserting her offspring. Her story, which is corroborated by other testimony, is as fid*f, ^ •lows: “She is^a widow, her husband having died in Buffalo. She went Jo Petroleum Centre in seargh of employment,iiud worked in a hotel tliere. She fell a victim to the persistent arts of tlioJ landlord, and was then heartlessly turned away. About four weeksago she. was received into the poorhouse at Young^vilk%/aiul dbout ten days since her child, a fihc looking boy, was bom. She came from Yotmgsville to Corry and laid the child in a conspicuous place, and liid •lierself to watch it, until a passer by seeing it took it up, and then she hastened away, going to Tidioute. She was, however jmjne^| lt;liutely arrested, on a telegram to Corry, was ! taken hack and had a Hearing, with the result above stated. The poor woman was sick and suffering, and the kind hearted constable appealed to District Attorney Lynch,who immediately accompanied him to Judge Vincent*-and laid the case before him. The Judge released her on her own recognizance to appear.”
