'SPEED TRAP'The controversy over whether or not there Is a speed trap for motorists In Socorro continues to rnge.It started some weeks ago when Herman Neff, manager or the New Mexico Motor Club reported receipt of complaints that motorists driving through Socorro were being caught In a “speed trap. This was denied promptly by Socorro police and newspapers.'In the latest go-round, Editor Edwin Stanton of the Socorro Chieftain quoted Mr. Neff as hnving said that an investigation revealed thnt there was no speed trap. Mr. Neff denied having made the statement and countered with the assertion that he has a sheaf of complaints from .motorists who soy that there is a speed trap. Mr. Stanton says that forms pledging Socorro residents not to buy anything In Albuquerque arebeing prepared. We haven’t driven’through Socorro In some time, so have no first hand information concerning enforcement of the 25-mlle-an-hour speed limit there. However, we have driven through a number of other New Mexico towns‘recently. Wp observed that many motorists apparently do not believe In signs. A spqed limit of 25 miles an hour means anywhere from 30 to 40 miles for them. : If they-are-running true to form while passing through Socorro, there Is little wonder that some of .them qre being stopped by police.- ,Wo think a vigilant eye on the speedometer might go a long way toward assuringan uninterrupted trip through Socorro. •As to those pledget not to buy anythingotflinchouhavHi.iCcrproHutCo-■Inviihodecipadelconranmoiwhifaypin:CarmlthlrrSicves den Th« met u (iIng!*wHoidefiM Xttordtphtvandtht:
