The day arted off with a pet show xmsored by the Mazon Merry lakers 4-H Club. Seventy-two ets were exhibited, and teryone received prizes and ertificates of recognition even entries were also made i the Frog Jumping Contest isa Isham’s frog won with a iree jump total of 85 inches The next event was one and a alf hours of games for pre-■ens. Annette Norton was in aarge of games and prizes for 4-year-olds; Angie Norton for 8-year-olds; and Sandy'Connell for 9-12-year-olds.ynn Bates was planning aairman.The afternoon got off to a oisy start with the squad car’s iren leading the Youth arade. Approximately 100 of lazon’s and the surrounding reas youth marched in the arade in over 60 entries. Winners in the parade were onies — Janice Hansen, /agons - Deanna and Deborah 'aiseth, Scott Heren, and lichele and Chris Murray; istumes - Mike and Kevin talker, Clark Spencer, and ovin Schram; other - Lauri nd Ray Ishamand, Mark oode, Mike, Jeff and Danny owman, and Shannon and amie Thomas; motorized -andy and Kevin Lowery. Judges were Mrs. Helen offman, the Rev. Mr and Mrs Bob Briesch assisted committee members Jan Esgar. Pam Kruger and Candy Heren with the dance.A local “Almost Anything Goes was held Tuesday at the MVK High School grounds. The AAG was sponsored as a Centennial activity by the Young Americans Day Committee.The games, planned by Gloria Cortez, Shawn Madison and Dana Russell involved the use of coordinated moves, skill in athletics, and a lot of luckOne game involved sliding down a slip-n-slide, and catching an apple in your mouth For another game, a blindfolded retriever, had to locate a football which his teammate kicked over the goal posts. A third game gave the five players a shower, when the water balloons being thrown over the standards burst in the process. Have you ever tried jumping in a gunny sack with a partner, while blindfolded*’ It was no easy trick, as the players found out. Nor was it easy to slide across a slick plastic covered pole. The three players in the last game found out what it feels like to be a pancake, when the flour, water, and egg mixture dried on their skin It wouldn’t have been on their skin, of the laddlers had managed to get the mixture into the hat the bicycle rider was wearing.Three teams of 20 from Coal City, Mazon and Gardner competed against each otherfor points and the top prize.Mazon went home with the first place trophy with 48 points.
