Mrs Anderson and 4-year-old granddaughter, Marsha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Anderson, escapedfrom the house after neighborsThe fire is reported to have started in the TV nook in a room in rear of the two story brick house. There was a brick wall between that room and the rest of the house. Thk prevented the fir# from spreading fast into the kitchen and dining room. Both these rooms and contents were damaged. There was smoke and heat damage to other rooms. Neighbor* had awakened Mrs. Anderson.removed much of the furniture.Firemen strung 2.000 feet of hose from a fire hydrant at Karnes Street and Honaker Avenue, and are said to have done an expert Job in fighting the fire. Hundreds of automobiles were driven to the scene, but police work held interference with fire fighting to a minimum.Mr*. Anderson was awaken^ bv Mrs. Harold Herring and Mrs. Charles Manderville, neighbors, and came down stairs in answer to their alarm at the front door. She went upstairs to get her granddaughter and was almost overcome by smoke at the landing. An Owens youth who had a flashlight helped the little girl out and then aided Mrs Anderson. Dr. J. I. Markell came to the house and tieated her. Except for some coughing yesterday, Mr*. Anderson was recovering from her ordeal.Mr. and Mrs. Bill Anderson were in Bluefield when notified of thefire.(
