Society Has Annual Service Next SundayMembers of the Good Samaritan Aid Society will hold their 27th annual services at the Second Baptist Church, Decatur-st, at 3 p. m, Sunday, August 11 with the Rev. R. T. Booker delivering anniversary sermon.Music will be furnished by the Aid Society chorus under the direction of Mrs. Ladonia Speedwell.The Aid Society was organized Oct. 30, 1919 at the church by Mrs. Mary Hicks and Mrs. E. M. Alexander both of whom had been affiliated with the society in Cairo, 111., and desired to organize such a group here.With 35 charter members, James ’Cannon, now deceased, was named first president. In the past 27* years, the society has had five presidents and four have died. The present leader, Alfred Alexander, lives at 1136 Third-st, and has been a mail carrier in this city for 17 years.The society has 120 members.The Good Samaritan Church Aid Society was changed in 1923 to the present name when it received a charter and is now incorporated as a non-profit organization. Their purpose is to help their needy when sick and to assist in burying their dead. This is the only organization of its kind, here, for colored people.In the near future they hope to purchase property to build • a home for the aged members.All members will meet at the church at 2:30 to assemble to march to Adams-st, and then to Washington-st back to thechurch.Officers are:President, Alfred Alexander; vice-president, Mrs. ElizabethHurd; secretary, Mrs. Sara McKinney; assistant secretary, Mrs. Louise Johnson; treasurer, Mrs, Florence Delaney; chaplain, Mrs!Ella Jackson and Mrs. Lillian Jackson.Committees include:Board of Trustees,, RufusKoonce, John Jackson, Mrs. Lottie Mathews, Hugh Shilders and Mrs. Jessie Stokes.Sick Board—Joe Williams,chairman, Mrs. Pearl Alexander,Mrs. ^ Marie McKinney, Mrs.Mamie Allen and Mrs. Anna Norris.Marshal—Frank Church well.Staff bearers—Mrs. Minerva Knox, Mrs.. Gladys Church well.Banner Bearer—P. L. Rodgers.Social Committee — Mrs. Kate Brinson, Building committee— Dr. James H. Taylor, chairman, Mrs. Harriet Hayden, secretary, Frank Church well, Lee Brady! Mrs. Mildred Eskridge, Mrs. Dorothy Rice, the Rev. E. S Burns and Joe Williams.
