National Federation of Colored WomenS AA representative meeting of coloredwomen met in Boston on the 2d and, torganized a National Federation uf jColored Women of the I Tnited States |I and elected the following officers: jj President, Mrs Booker T Washington of Tnskegee, Ala; Record iug Secretary, j ! Mrs F K Ridley of Boston; Correspond- j ing Secretary. Mrs L C Carter of New York; Treasurer. Miss Libby C Anthony of Missouri. Mrs \ ictoria Matthews of New York was chosen Chairman of the j ! Executive Committee, and was given l power to select her subordinates later I on.! The Vice I Resident 8 were chosen by 'districts. Mrs Ella Mohammett of Ne*I braska was chosen to act as Vice Presi- ; dent of the West, Mrs HoPn Crum of j ! Charleston, S. C., ior the South and Mrs j ; Gamer of Brooklyn, N. \ for the East. !The constitution of the new organization has for its object the elevation, pro gress and moral improvements of the I ! colored women of America. It also pro- j 1 vides for the formation of State and local organizations, subject to the national organization. i Mrs Booker T Washington, who was elected President of the organization, was born in Macon, M\ss. in l''tU. She was graduated from the Fisk University at Nashville, Tenu., and two years ago married Prof. Washington, the popular Principal of the Tuskegee Normal In-j dusfrial Institute. j Mrs Washington is tall, has a very intellectual countenance and sound common sense, broad minded ideas. She has accomplished great good among the j poor girls of the South, and her annual conference among them, where sh»' de livers practical talks on manners of living and education, has been a godsend to the females of her race
