Though he had been in ill health for some tjme, his death was unexpected. Heβ was 57 years and 19 days erf age*Mr. Elmes was a prominent lodge* man of the county,' and active hi the state organization of Odd FeJ-Iowa. He also was a member of Modern Woodmen. Knights of Pythias, Rebeccas, and Independent Order of Forestt is. For a number of years he had been an elder in the Presbyterian Church at Venice, and took an active part in the church's affairs.Bom in Portsmouth, England. Mr. Elmes came to this country with Vita parents when five years of age. They immediately sealed on a farm in Venice, and Mr. Elmes followed his early training as a farmer, building up for himself an exce-llcnt reputation in this field.Besides the bereaved widow. Mrs. Olive Schubert Elmes. he leaves four daughters, Mra. Ray Mulford, Mrs. John Schradls, Mrs. JohnStull and Mrs, William McCormick;; two sons, Prank and Tom Elmes; a. brother, Dave Elmes and a sister, Mrs. C2ara Scott of Middletown. A number of grandchildren also given his passing on.Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
