PABOWAJf*Out* celebration of the26th anniversary of the entrance of the Pioneers into SuJt Lake Valley went off in a spirited manner, commencing' with artillery firing at dawn of day by Captain Wlminer’s company, music by the brass and marshal bands, firing of the anvils at ti o'clock, and ringing of church bell as a signal for the citizens to assemble on the pubjJc square- Procession | was formed under the direction of the mar- 1 BhaU Samuel Orton, representing the principal orders of our community; also a wagon loaded with rock, sagebrush, etc., drawn by oxen, and driven by a man poorly clad. On the side of lb© rickety bed was the inscription, “Utah as it was, 1647;’* also a fine mule team and new wagon, handsomely decorated with flowers, fruits, grains and vegetables, treated in the midst of which was a flue old lady, we ghfug, one would judge, 20U pounds, the mother of a numerous progeny- On the banner was* “Utah as it is, J873. Procession marched around the public square, and was comfortably seated in the meeting-house at 11 o’clock- Binging, prayer, oration by Abraham Smith, short speech by Jesse N. Smith, toasts and a few remarks by President Win. Ii« Ihime- The children enJot ed themselves in the dance in the a Tier noon, and in the evening the adults did the same*Committee of Arrangements — Thomas Durham, William Adams, William JX Hobbs-The health of the people is tolerably good, considering the neat and dryness of the season-Our crops are poor, owing to the cold epnng and scarcity of water, still there is a prospect of a sufficiency* Times are dull, without prospect of immediate change.Rich coal lauds have recently been discovered in this vicinity.Morgan Richards, Jcn.
