The 4tli of August Cel citation. ]The celebration of the jS'isetsenth An*m-VERSATlV OF THE E«A*Cir.\TiON OPTI7E SLAVESin THU West Indies, took place in this city dny before yesterday. A large number of our colored citizens from different parts of this and the adjoining States were present.I he processigp, with the accompaniment of excellent music, marched through the principal streets both in the morning and afternoon. Wc have ‘seldom, if ever, looked upon a procession combining more good looking and intelligent faces. The meeting was organized In the afternoon as a Mass Convention to lake into consideration the propriety and necessity of appointing some gentleman to capvass the State 1 in behalf of the extension of the right of suffrage to the colored citizens. Hvhd Parker, Esq., of Oshkosh, was chosc-n President cf the Convention, ami was assisted by Gboroe OhisuPj Esq., of Kenosha, and several other Vice Presidents whose names do not now recur to us. The speaking was admirable. Mr. Parker, the President of the Convention, entertained the large and intelligent audience with some well-timed a ml eloquent remarks upon the subject of the necessity of biking immediate and efficient action with reference to securing the right of snftriigc for the colored pioplo. The white citizens who were present were kindly granted seats and requested to act with the Convention. In reply to a suggestion frnm one of thecolored delegates, that it would be best toconfine their request for funds to the coloredcitizens, the Pi evident replied that lie did notconsider that they nc*Hl to be so very modest |about that matter, for the while people hadi ever refused to take money from the blacks**for any purpose. V’u agreed with the Prcsi-d nt, and see no reason why, since the colored citizens arcs taxed to support the government, that thev should nut have a voice7 win saying how the money should be expended. The Convention adjourned after raising funds and appointing Mr. Parker to canvass the Slate. We have never seen a meeting in that Court House where the proceedings were any heller conducted, or where u Chairman presided more ably. The pleasant exercises of the day were j finbhed off in Fine stylo by a dance and sup-I per at the Racine House, i We did not see the Ailvcr^lc office rep re-Mj senled at all. Wlmt is the matter with our | republican bntggadocqo that ho coul I not ! notice in more than ten lines so important ’ and interesting a meeting as that of die col-; ored citizens cn the Fourth, of August? *
