The Thunder Storm.Jt rained Sunday. The heavy downpour was accompanied by much lightning, heavy peals of thunder and the earth was bombarded with hail. Quite a good deal of damage resulted from the-elements. Jacob Mercer’s barn was struck by lightning two times, the first bolt setting the structure on tire. The blaze was noticed a short time afterwards and extinguished. The second bolt tore off some of the siding. Robert Davenport who lives near the Dunkard church lost three cows which were - struck by lightning. Much corn was blown down in spots although the wind was not high. The oldest settler cannot remember of ever seeing hail stones of such enormous size as fell Sunday. Some of them were so large%they would fill a pint tin cup. Several fellows who were caught out with umbrellas hadthem pierced full of holes by the hail. Had there been a strongwind the damage would have been very great.
