The corner stone of the present structuro was laid May 9. 1SC9. The church was not finished and dedicated until July 3. 1S70. The brick work was done by William Newman, father of lion. das. W. and Geo. Newman. Archibald Foster was the carpenter. Father Kargc was the first priest in charge of the new church. One year later he was succeeded by the present priest, Father Noonan. Several improvements were made soon after liis taking charge of the parish. The school building is a monument to his enterprise and perseverance, The new tower just completed is the work of Wilbur VVoi'U, who had the contract fur the brick work, John M. Williams, carpenter, aud Frank A. Gloekncr had contract for painting and slating. The cross on top of the eupalo is nine feel high, and from the top to the street below is gOti feet. A chiule of three bells has been ordered for tuc tower, and a town clock would also bo in posUiou if Iho city would aid the church in caring for the time piece. Capl. A. U. Alger was the architect of the new spire. The froscoiug was the work of 13. Hum-brocht, of Cincinnati. How well lie has done his work can be easily seen from a glance at the beautiful walls aud ceiling. The improvements made havo cost over Sfi.OUO. St. Marys is now one of the finest church edifices in southern Ohio.
