Family ReunionI Airey ReunionI The descendants of Thomas and Mary Airey gathered at ■the original home farm, now owned by Harry and Joan Airey, Ion July 17-19,1998 for a family reunion — the first in 30 I years,I There was early registration Friday night for those who could I make it, and enthusiastic visiting. Each family member, with I colour-coded name tags, then displayed pictures (using I same coloured bristol board) of their immediate family.I Saturday morning was the official registration with approximately 160 attending. A fun golf tournament followed at IRiverdale Golf Country Club. In the afternoon, everyone I gathered for family pictures, games for the children (with I lots of prizes) and more visiting. Those who made crafts■ brought and displayed them. A cookbook, What’s Cooking laf... The Airey’s, printed by L. Rasmussen Co. Ltd., was ■compiled by members of the Airey family. These included I family favourites from great grandparents to the current I generation. There was a family quiz contest to encourage I mingling so the present generation would get to know some I of their elder kinfolk. Again, prizes were given out for this I following a delicious beef supper (Charolais beef of course). I Cousin Mary Wright supplied a large decorated family re-■ union cake. Everyone gathered around an open fire to en-I joy a skit by the Haggerty family, a poem composed and I read by cousin Hazel Kinsey, a sing-song (music by Jake | Kroeger) and more visiting. To conclude the evening, we I had a bang-up fireworks display.I Sunday morning started off with a sausage/pancake break-Ifast. Worship service at 11 a.m. was conducted by cousin I Pastor Tom Haggerty. Jake and Tamara Kroeger, Jacqui I Lepp and Harry Friesen provided music. After lunch, a lovely I birthday cake, made and decorated by Anna Hofer of Prai-1 rie Grain Bakery, was served to celebrate all the July birth-I days of those in attedance. Cousin Hazel presented her ■cousins and their spouses with matching hand-crafted pins I and fridge magnet6. More family pictures and visiting con-Ieluded a very successful weekend. Everyone was grateful I for such a “perfect setting and for the presence of Aunt I Nellie and Aunt Stella.■ Attending were: Georgina and Frank Black and family, I Donna and Ross Petterson and family: descendants of I George and Lily Airey; Hazel Kinsey and son Doug Faulker, I May Murray, Ollie (Ellen) Murray and family: descendants I of Dora and Jim Turney (missing were Earl, Oliver, Alvin land Irene Piercy), Joan Sutherland, Harry and Joan Airey I and family, Mary and Roy Wright and family: descendants I of Clib and Hazel Airey; Raymond and Eleanor Airey and [family, Ed and Isobel Airey and family, Lynn and Jake I Kroeger and family: descendants of Charles and Beatrice I Airey; Evelyn Argle and family, Doreen Bate, Gladys Shanks [and family, Albert Airey and Edna Babiuk, Wilfred and Linda | Airey, Wanda Thomson and family: descendants of Albert | and Edith Airey (missing were Linda Wiebe and Lloyd Airey); | Ellen (Nellie) Woods, Tom and Marg Woods, Mary and | Gordon Brown, Stella and Vern McKenzie, Doug and Rose | Woods, Garth and Doreen Woods and family, Shirley and I Gerry Chudley and family: descendants of EHen (Nellie) and I Bill Woods (Aunt Nellie, 94, now resides at Fairview Home I in Brandon); Jack and Christina Haggerty, Tom and Elaine I Haggerty and family, Mary and Harry Friesen: descendants | of Mae and Ken Haggerty; Stella Wareham, Bev and Wayne | Stanley and family, Marlene and Barry Myers, Wayne and | Dianne Wareham and family, Brenda and Peter Klippenstine | and family: descendants of Stella and Matt Wareham (Aunt I Stella, 84, also resides at Fairview Home).■These descendants of Thomas and Mary travelled from ■various points of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Mani-I toba. Everyone in attendance would like to thank Harry and ■Joan for graciously permitting us the use of their yard for I this reunion, and for their wonderful allround hospitality (re: Icamping, Saturday supper, etc.) Thanks so much.
