Main St.Removal of, exhibits of Xenia merchants from the Art Hall thisyear, marks the end of sixty consecutive years Mr. Galloway has been an exhibitor at the fair.The Xenian began his career as an exhibitor at the fair in 1*81 when he was employed by the Hutchison and Gibney Co.“In those days, merchants were allotted no floor space and our dls plays, which consisted entirely of carpets and curtains, were tacked to the walls above the display of canned goods, Mr. Galloway recalls. A special train was run over the Springfield branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad fromthe Pennsylvania station in Xeniato a stop on X. Detroit St justnorth of the present home of Mrs. W. I* Miller, he explained “The fare was fifteen cents from the depot to that stop and we had to walk from Detroit St., to the fairgrounds and enter by a rear gate,he recalls.Mr (iallowav left the Hutchisonand Gibney Co in 1 !13 and withD W. Cherry, Xenia, oreanized the Galloway and Cherry store, which started exhibiting at the fair that same year.t •A CHANGE in the manner of exhibsting merchandise in the Art Hall was effected about fifteenyears ago, Mr, Galloway remembers, when the old octagon shapedbuilding was destroyed by fire and the present Art Hall waserected.
