July 26, 1941I fn tft August 2, 1944In the most tranquil primary election in the memory of local residents Allen County cast less than the normal total for Iola alone. W. E Kerr. Ida in-surppce man. won the Republican nomination for commissioner for the third district, defeating Joe McKinley and Alf Williams in the only county raceion the ballot. The only surprise was the nomination of D. B. (Pat) Patterson as the Democratic candidate for sheriff. Patterson was a write-in candidate. His friends have been working quietly during the past 10 days and he secured about double thenumber of votes necessary toplace his name on the ballot in the general election next November.Frank Means, Erie, has been made manager of the Litwin Department store. Mr, Means operated a store at Erie for a number of years, selling out a i few months agio. Since then he has been employed by Litwin’s at Emporia. Mr. and Mrs. 1 Means have two small daughters. Carol Elaine and Hilda Oean. and plan to move to lola | when a house can be secured.
