Long Family56th ReunionThe 56th annual reunion ofdescendants of James Harrison and Mary Catherine Lippold Long will be held Sunday, Aug 12 at Knights of Columbus picnic grounds, Christie Hoad.A buffet luncheon will be served at 1 p.m. in pavilion 17. Each family to bring their own food, )peverages and place settings.Gene Long will preside at the memorial service and business meeting at 2 p.m., assisted by Mrs. James Watson, vice president and Mrs. Arthur J. Long, secretary-treasurer. Prizes will be awarded in severalcategories.Games for children will be directed by Mrs. Herman H. Long Jr. Adult games are also planned. A buffet supper will conclude the day.The first family reunion was organized in 1928 by Mrs. Mary Ann Clark and Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Gourley and was held on their father’s farm in Short Gap, W Va. The farm is now the campus of Frankfort High School. In memory of James Harrison Long, the family members donate an award in his name to the senior who excels in history at Frankfort School. The first award waspresented in 1980.Mr. Long was the grandson of John Nelson Long who settled in the Cumberland area during the late 1780s He had'four sons, John Nelson Jr., Conrad, George and Philip, the father of James Harrison.All descendants of JohnNelson Long are invited to attend the reunion
