Fred Covin, former Upshur : County, Pittsburg mid Dnin-, gcrficld Superintendent of I Schools, rings down I he curium on ii brilliant, 46-year career in education when h« retires from the Texas Education Agency in Austin on Aug. 1.The Agency recently honored .Mr. Covin, a Consultant in Administrative Services for the past six years, along with 12 other lop Agency personnel at an awards banquet hold at the Quality Inn ballroom in Austin. Over 250 people were in attendance. Ur. J. W. Edgar, retiring Commissioner of Education, presented the former Upshur County school man with a plaque which stated: For Outstanding Educational Leadership and Dedicated Service to the Texas Education Agency and the Public Schools of Texas On the afternoon of July 26, 1974, fellow employees of Ihe TL\\as Education Agency’s Division of Program Funds Management honored Mr. Covin with a coffee and cake reception. • Mr. Covin was presented ; with a gold tie tack on 1 which was inscribed Ihe State Seal of Texas by R. E. Slayton. Division Director. Mr. Slayton slated that Mr. Covin was a loyal and dedicated worker and always performed assignments and duties in a conscientious manner.”Plaques of appreciation wore presented by the Dallas Independent School District's Parental Advisory Committee and by the Laredo Tndc-pcndcnl School District. These were two of the many school districts to which Mr. Covin had provided technical assistance during his tenure with the Agency as an educational consultant. Mr. Covin's primary duties were with programs funded under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. He will Ialso be available for hire on school administrative consultant services.Mr. Covin received his college (raining at East Texas State College, BS and MS degrees, and has done graduate work at George Peabody College and (he University of Texas. He is a member of Alpha Chi, Phi Della Kappa, and Delta Epsilon C Imp ter.Ills experience includes a year as fellow teacher at East Texas Stale College in 1928-29 followed by a year us teacher at Ml.
