The tables were nicely decorated and delicious cotirs es consisting of fried chicken, salad, olives, pickles atid ice cream and cake were served and music and songs enjoyed during the eating period.How Philip J. McLean, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated as toastmaster, which he did in good style, keeping the tables in an uproar through his witty remarks.The address of welcome was made by Mr. C. Lee Go wan. County Agent, which was responded to by the Her. Zach Ford Bond, of Augusta. The presentation of the charter wag made by Mr. Joseph L Bowles, Jr., of Columbia, S. ('., whc made the presntation speech in place of Alva M. Lumpkin, Cover nor of the Carolinas Kiwanis Dis trict, who was unable to be present Mr. Bowles made a masterly ad dres« and defined Kiwunism. it* ideals and ambitions in glowing terms. He stated that the Kiwanis Club was a membership of each representative of different business men of Aiken and that being a member of this club taught them to know one another better and enable them to work for the good of their city. ‘ Too many of the merchants of any city,” Mr. Bowler said are not understood. Theyseem cold and unapproachable butas a rule when you get to know the other fellow, you will find that he |lt;4 not such a bad person afterall. BothMr Frank P. Henderson acting President of the Kiwanis Club, accepted thw Charter in a splendid ad dress. In it he outlined the plans for the Kiwanis Club of Aiken for the future and talked of the good work that was going to be done by the club.Another good speech was that made by Mr. Pressley, president of the Kiwanis Club of Columbia. Mr Pressley spoke earnestly and to the pdint about Kiw'anlsm and its alms.A few musical selections frommadeweregood in-greaflyspiring talks which enjoyed.During the banquet ting Mrs. F. E. Ardrey sang two or three beautiful little melodies which were warmly applauded The one most enjoyed by the Kiwanians and their gu**sts was a little melody entitled “A little bit of Honey”At the end of the meeting the party broke up after singing on** verse of “The Star Spangled Banner” which was sung by everyone standing facing a beautiful Fnited States dag.Hahn.
