Princeton Man Sentenced.A1 To 5 Years For MurderI PRINCETON (RNS) — A 65* year-old retired Princeton merchant who was found guilty of •voluntary manslaughter in the Shooting death of a magazine ^salesman of Alabama, has been scheduled to serve 1 to 5,years in the state penitentiary,According to Mercer County Criminal Court Judge Howard M, Jarrett, Wather D. Mills, who was committed to Weston State Hospital three months ago to determine if he is capable of serving his sentence, has been found of sound mind. His transfer to the penitentiary is expected this week,~ Mills, charged with murder, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter by a Mercer County Criminal Court jury in November, 1963, and sentenced to from one to five years at the itate penitentiary in Mounds ville.Z Victim of the shooting at •Vito’s Lunch in Bluefield earlier Jast year,was Paul M. Coward, 40 of Decatur, Ala,~ Following the trial, Mills’ attorneys moved into circuit court with a writ of habeus corpus to have Mills released on bond, According to court officials the writ had been withdrawn and acriminal court order had been issued placing Mills in the hospital.Jarrett said all appeals by defendant’s attorneys also have been withdrawn.The order to commit Mills to the Weston hospital was written on the advice of physicians at the Bluefield Mental Health Center, who had examined the Princetonian,The court pointed out that Mills was confined at Weston for study and treatment if neces sary.
