LaredoBridgeCostlyLAREDO (Spl) - It will cost the City of Laredo approximately §3 million to realize a long-delayed second international span across the RioGrande.The figure was quoted by -Mayor J. C. Martin Jr. based on data from the Bridge Division of the Texas Highway Department,• Martin said the city began planning for the facility years ago with a far smaller cost es-timate. Rising cost of materials and construction has put the figure far beyond the earlier figure, Martin said.Bridge Proper 'Marlin said the bridge proper will cost the city $1,663,348. Cost of a truck route,-thespan approaches, toil jrtaza and ramp facilities will put the total at $2,532,813.The mayor said the city also has to contend with the cost of acquiring necessary right-of-way and administrative expenses.I believe the whole thing will cost Laredo some $3 million before we get through with it, Marlin said.The mayor, recently re* elected to another four-year term, said he is hoping that work can start on the second bridge before the end of 1974.lie said Laredo cannot proceed with execution of a final agreement with the Mexican government without a permit from the U.
