He was a veteran of tie civil war in Company D, Thirty-eighth Indiana regiment, Eliza Bas sett, daughter of the late Sylvester and Susan Bassett, was born In Marion township December 7, 1842, and was married to George W. HInd3 on April 25, 1861. To this union eight children were born, fire of whom are living—Melvin, of Newcastle, hid:; Mrs. Charles Walker, of East Mechanic street, ShelbyvUte; Mrs. Frank White, of neat Morristown; S. V. Hinds and Miss Mary Hinds, of Morristown. There a re also eight grandchildren.•Mrs. Hinds’ father was one of three brothers, that married three sisters and ail lived to celebrate their golden weddings. Mrs. Hinds has one sister, Mrs. John M. Kennedy, and Mr. Hindu a biother, the late James 0. Hinds, that celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversaries.Mr. and Mrs. Hinds lived on the farm nrtil about fifteen years ago. when they retired and moved to Mortis town.
