The Thomas G. Stitts Celebrate Golden Anniversary SaturdayThe Golden Wedding unniverary of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (J. Stitt, prominent residents of Belle Vernon and formerly of Charleroi, was ccje-btatcd hist Saturday, April 21.A family luncheon was hchl in Johnson's banquet room, Monesacn, at one o’clock followed by a small icccption in the evening for the same family group at the Stilt residence, 302 Short street. Hello Vernon. Kola* tivos of the honored couple came from as far as North Carolina and Washington, II. C. to participate in the celebration.Gold and white were the predominating colors for the decorative motif at both the luncheon and reception. Spring flowers, majority in golden hues, were attractively arranged at Johnson's and at the home. Many of the bouquets were remembrances from relatives and friends from local and distant points, and particularly outstanding was an arrangement of fifty yellow lose* received by .Mrs. Stitt from her husband.Cards, telegrams and other congratulatory messages were received by Mr. and Mrs. Stitt throughout the day and evening. Although the actual date of their anniversary is April IB, the observance was delayed until Saturday to permit relatives from out-of-town to attend.Mr. and Mrs. Stitt wete married April 18, 11)01 at Homestead, Pa, Mrs. Stitt prior to her marriage was Ha Hie Virginia West, of Homestead. The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Virginia S. Nash and Mrs. Not man(Lucille) Carigmin, hnth residing inSilver Spring, Md., and a four-year-old granddaughter Elaine Michele Cn rignnn* all of whom were present for the anniveisaiy festivities. Mr*. Cmigmm and her husband, Norman Carignan, n Washington correspondent for the As.sociuted Pn^s, whowas also present, were mmrivd seven years ago on the weddihg anniversary of Mrs. Carignan’* paunl'.Others of the family who attended the affair were .Mr. mtd Mrs. V. Wayne West and daughters Mh Hetty West and Mrs. David Hosson, the hitter's husband David Hossott and their young sons Davy and Donnie, all of Belle Vernon (Mr. West '* Mrs. Stitt’s brother): Mia. Lucille Thomson, sister of Mrs. Stitt, and her daughters Helen and Jeanne, of Arlington, Va., and nephews nnl nieces, Lawrence Matt is, of McKees-iwirt: Norman Matt is, of CJuipet Hill,N. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Himes, daughter Olive and son Larry, of Washington, D. C. Trenton, of Charleroi.Toastmaster at the luncheon was Norman Mattis, formerly of Belle Vernon, now a member of the faculty of the University of Nmth Carolina at Chapel Hill, N\ C.The narcissus flower and Kthclhcrt Nevin’s piano composition “Narcissus” which played an outstanding role in the romance and married life of the honor couple, were featured in both entertainment and floral arrangements.As Mr. and Mrs. Stitt entered the dining room, Mrs. Thomson played “Narcissus” as a piano solo. Miniature copies of the composition were in scroll form, tied with gold ribbon, for favors at each of the twenty-six covers. Crystal water glasses with gold inscriptions commemorating the occasion, were also favoi.s along with gold mtd white place cards and nut cups. The table centerpiece of yellow roses, car nut ions and snapdragon was arranged in a large gold bowl flanked by frosted yellow candles in crystal holders. A gold ribbon runner the length of the table and narcissus blossoms in bud vases.further enhanced the appointments.Directly after the Gold**n A universal y toast offered by the toastmaster, Norman Mnttis, the anniversary cake, again accentuating the gold and white scheme, was cut by Mr. and Mrs. Stitt. Later they were presented with a beautiful imported gold and crystal Anniversary clock from the family gioup. Other gifts were also presented to the couple. An original poem by Mrs. David Hos-mn, of He He Vernon, was read during the gift presentation and an appropriate anniversary song, words aUo by Mrs. Bossmn, was sung to tlii* tunc of “Seems Like Old Times” by the entire family.At the evening reception in the Stitt residence, a group of executives and department officials from the AHenport Woiks of Pittsburgh Steel Company called to extend their congratulations. This same group honored Mr. Stitt at it luncheon in the Allen port Mill dining room on April IB with J. E. Simonin, Plant Manager, making a gift presentation on behalf of the men to Mr. and Mrs. Stitt. Mr. Stitt is Chief Inspecting Engineer for Pittsburgh Steel Company and ha* been associated with the company for thirty-two years.Among messages received was one fioni Mrs. Jennie Gaskins, of Philadelphia, a close friend of Mr. and Mrs. Stitt sdnce ami prior to their marriage, who was unable to attend the luncheon because of illness. The Stitts first met at a music.ile in the Gaskins’ home at which Mis. Stitt, an accomplished pianit and organist, played the piano selection “Narcissus” which at that time, was a favorite in music circles.For the Anniversary occasion, Mrs. Stitt wore nn Alice blue crepe dies*, duplicating the shade she wore at her wedding fifty yeurs ago. Complimenting her costume was a corsage of yellow roses.Mr. Stitt who was awarded the 11)50 Cettificato of Merit by the American Society for Testing Materials, and Mr*.
