It was built of logs and the pulpit was on the side oof the room and high up along the wall requiring stairs to ascend it. Sometime later it was covered with siding. This building was used until 2901 when it was torn down and the work begun for the present building Some tlmn was required for the erection of the new building. The cornerstone was laid In I9C3 hut the church wasnot dedicated until August II. 1901. The cemetery about the church Is very old. the first burial being on Maeeb is. 1643 The Wends and relatives attended the funeral In a large covered wagon, drawn by four horses. The coffin was in the same wagon according to the custom in those days. The cemetery' is today a community burying ground.Before the erection of a church the community was served by preachers front the Middletown circuit, the preachers riding a distance of 13 miles or more, and coming from Middletown. Boousboro or Sbarpshnrg. When the church was built It was connected with the Antietam circuit with its center in Sbaipsburg. It has gone through several oilier changes in circuits, being affiliated at different times with the Smithsburg. Hagerstown and Mechanics town circuits. At present it is affiliated with the Smithsburg circuit watch ts served by the Rev. Ira IV. Shindle.The church has been completely leneA'ed both inside and outside ! within the past few weeks. A few |desirable changes were made, now carpet was laid on the pulpit platform ad rubber runners in the aisles and new lights were installed. The total cost will be something over *700 and the funds are being talsed to cover this expense. It is estimated that by the time the celebration is over the entire amount needed will have been received. The Mt.
