OBITUARY.MRS. CATIIARINE MILLER.Catharine Barbara Merkel was born a a Grosswelr, Baden, Germany, Nov.9, 1885, and passed away from her ^ arthly home in Posfcvllle, Iowa, April 9, 1909, at the age of 78 years, four □onths and 20 days, death following a ° ew days illness. ^Miss Merkel left the old home in Ger-nany in company with her parents and ho family, and after a stormy and sad ourney landed in New Orleans in De- * sember 1854. But the sad journey was r lot ended and e’re she had reached the md of their journey and her future e lome in Galena, 111., yellow fever had ^ jlaimed a brother, sister and mother. l Jn June 26, 1850, Miss Merkel was Ic inlted in marriage to John Kasper Mil- £ ler and they moved immediately to their new home in Frankville, Iowa. ro this home was born four children— ] John Frederick, Louise Catherine (Ow- { an), Mary Adeline and George Henry, 1 the last named dying in infancy. On t May 2, 1874, Mr. Miller passed away, ( leaving a wife and three children.Mrs. Miller was confirmed in the ; Catholic church in Germany; was con- j sorted in the Methodist Episcopal lt;church in Frankville, Iowa; and twenty ] years ago joined the United Brethren , church ht Bethel, where Bhe hold her 14membership until her death. She believed in and *proved the power of him who “cares for the widow and fatherless.’' The Bible was her daily companion and many times had she read it through. Her life was patterned after its teachings, and she was devoted and loyal to the church, all its services being her delight and finding her present.During the 48 years residence near Postville, nud five years resideuce in Postville, Mrs. Miller had made a host of friends. To mourn their loss today is a brother, Bernhard Merkel, of Sauk City, Wis; three children, seven grandchildren and a host of friends.The funeral services were held from the Postville Methodist church at one o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 21st. The pastor, liov. C. E. Smith, preached from the suggestive text, Rev. 3;4—“They shall walk with mein white; for they are worthy.” The United Brethren pastor, Rev. Joseph Penn, assisted in the service. Interment in the Minert cemetery.Those from a distance in attendance at the fuuoral wore—Bernhard Merkel, of Sauk City, Wis; Mrs. W.
