Those who havo witnessed previous displays readily ad'* mil that the turn out to-day excells all, in the matter of decorations and the number of representatives from the various com* panics.The procession, owing to the rainfall in the morning, was not formed until about 11 o’clock when it moved from the corner ot Bath Avenue and Strand.BAN JACINTO VETERANS.This being the day set apart for the celebration of the battle of San Jacinto an invitation was extended to the sur-vivors to join the procession. The engine was handsomely decorated wi:b fljwera and evergreens. A conspicuous teature was a large gatne cock mounted opon the soioke-stack ofthe engine. The motto of the company, 4‘Always Ready, Was handsomely displayed in letters of gold. “Washington” was organized in the year 1847 as a trajk company, and received its first engine in April, 1850. NO I.The truck glistened with varnish as though just from the muunfaotory, and was elegautly necorated with bequots, which continued to arrive up to the moment cf stardng. A prominent feature of this company was tho appearance of seven hoys dressed in the uniform of the company and seated upon the truok. This company claims to be the oldest organization fu the Department, dating back to the 3rd of October, 1843. The truck at present used by the company was received from New York during the mouth ot April, 1867. V1XLProtection Fire Company No. 8 turned out nou*»iliy strong, and iu the mat-ter of decoratings was fully up to any of the preceding companies. Between the ropes by which the engine was drawn marched “Our Pet,” the company horse—claimed to be the smartestanimal on Galveston Island.
