• Fifty years of married life for Mr. and Mrs. John S. Heppner, 1028 North Ninth, was marked by such celebration as will be long remembered by the family and friends. On Sunday, April 15, about 40 callers at the home came to pay their ' respects and offer their congratulations to the couple who have madetheir home on North Ninth for 50years. Miss Jane Waggoner, granddaughter of the Heppners, supervised the service of tea, coffee and cakes to the guests.By Tuesday of this week, Aprii 17, which was the anniversary of their wedding, the Heppner house was literally filled with luxurious flowers, in vases, baskets and pots. Red roses, Talisman roses, snapdragons and gladioli made the atmosphere redolent of the garden. A pot of calla lilies added variety to the scene, and prominent among the flower gifts were a basket of yellow gladioli with pink and white snapdragons from Past Potentates of the Shrine, and 50 yellow Talisman roses from the PastCommanders of the Knights Templar.In addition, many other lovely gifts had arrived from friends and relatives, to mark this important milestone.On Tuesday evening, the Daughters of the 'Nile held a reception in honorof Mr. and Mrs. Heppner at the Shrine Country club north of the city. About 200 guests attended the party, whichbegan at 7:30 o'clock. Dances of thegay 90’s were interspersed among the modern numbers, which provided the chief entertainment, and refreshments of ice cream, cake and punch were served during the evening.Mr. and Mrs. Heppner have lived in Terre Haute the greater part oftheir lives, she coming here as a young girl of 17, and he being brought here by his parents when he was two years of age. He was born in Calcutta, Ind., and she was born at St. Louis, Mo. When they were married in 1895, they began housekeeping on North Ninth, and 42 years ago built the house which they now occupy. One son and one daughterwere born to them, but the daughter, Mrs. Waggoner, died some time ago, and her daughter, Jane, makes her home with the grandparents. Their son, John Oscar, lives in Kansas.
