League of Women Voters elects officers for 1990-92Jane Gnojek was elected president of the League ofWomen Voters of Lawrence-Douglas County for the 1990-92 term during a Thursday night meeting.Mrs. Gnojek, who was president-elect last year, will serve one year and will be succeeded by Nancy Ares, who was chosen president-elect Thursday night.Other members of the executive committee elected Thursday include Sandra Hef-ferren, secretary, and Virginia Seaver, treasurer. Mrs. Hefferren was elected to her second year as secretary, while Mrs. Seaver was elected to the first year of a two-year term.9The league also reviewed positions on local issues during the meeting, and decided on two issues to study in-depth during the next two years.Helen Fluker, out-going league president, said members will study local community corrections and forms of city government.Mrs. Fluker said the league normally chooses just one issue for in-depth study, but members were interested in both issues.The league also heard an overview of the history of the League of Women Voters from Nona Thompson. Nationally, the organization is celebrating its 70th birthday this year. It was first organized in Lawrence in 1931.
