Veteran Buddy Krebs Joins Field At Stafford SpeedwaySTAFFORD SPRINGS, — President Jack Arute has been informed that Buddy Krebs, one of the legendary figures in New England auto racing history, will join the already star-studded field at Stafford Springs Motor Speedway.“We should be ready by the big 100-lap National Championship race on May 28,” said Green, like Krebs a legendary figure in New England auto racing. “But we are making every effort to get the car done before that.”The car will carry the familiar No. 10 long associated with both Krebs and Oliver.“We are, of course, very happy about Buddy’s decision to run at our race track,” said Arute. “He has played such a large part inme growth of our sport.”It will be the first time Krebs has driven on the asphalt at Stafford. He was, however, a frequent competitor on the dirt at the historic racing plant, which has become one of the finest short tracks in the nation under the Arute-Bill Slater management team.Krebs will also be joining a number of NASCAR stars who w ere once nightly competitors on the independent ovals such as Ed Flemke. Gene Bergin, Ernie Caruso, S.J. Evonsion, Tony Mordino and Leo Cleary.The South Windsor resident has made history at both Riverside Park, where he won three track titles and six Riverside 500's, and at Thompson.
