She was the first while child to arrive at the Cougar Flat, now Ryderwood area, when she was about a year old.Bom April 14,1870, in Macon, Mo., Mrs. Laughlin has lived in Lewis County since early childhood. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Fletcher who were among the first settlers on a . timber claim on what was then Cougar Flat..Mrs. Laughlin was married in Chehalis in May 18S6, to J. T. Laughlin, who died in 1941.There are two children, Herbert Laughlin of Olympia, and Miss Ona Laughlin of Los Angeles, Calif. She stilt enjoys crocheting and carries on a letter writing correspondence with a number c-f friends and relatives. I’m so thankful for the wonderful people at MacMillan J Nursing Home and the home I have here, Mrs. Laughlin said.One feature of her birthday celebration was a party complete with cake. The party was attended by family members and friends from Castle Rock, •sville, ' Olympia, Vader, Yakima and Outlook.
