CALION FIRE CHIEF OBSERVES 23RD ANNIVERSARY AS FIREMAN! GALION — Gallon's fire chief.'Harry F. Kile, who yesterday observed his twenty-third anniversary as a fireman, has a hobby of collecting relics of fire equipment.It was Jan. J. 1923 that he became chief of the department,j and since that time he has sfath-i ered the old fire department relics. Included in the collection is a silver trumpet which was won uy the Old Niagara fire company at a tournament in Wooster, years ago, when that company was nationally known ; for winning tournaments.: The trumpet was the properlyS of Frank Eisele before he moved \ to California a few years ago at which time he turned it over to ■ Chief Kile. A uniform cap worn | at various celebrations by Mr. Eiscle, the constitution and bylaws of the Old Niagara fire department, which were printed in 3$82, a wide leather belt worn by firemen at that time are among items in Mr. Kile’s exhibit He also has a bell worn by the late Jeff Ganshorn, a picture of Herman Zellers who was the first chief, and H. G. Sponhauer who served as assistant chief at that time. Another picture in the col-j lection is that of the late E. B.; Burget who had the record oT j being the oldest fireman m the United Slates when he died.There is aUo a borseeollar used in the old department, and a leather bucket that was used lo fight fires, besides a hand-made bit that was used to drive the horses.Old helmets worn years ago by the fire fighters when it was first in operation, two torches, and a picture of the Old Niagara department when tbe city building was on West Atwood street where the French Dry Cleaning establishment is now located, are in the display.Chief Kile became a minuteman on Feb. 2. ISOS, and it was not until April 16. 1918 that he be-1 came a regular fireman. At this I time there was no chief and he 'was appointed captain of the department. Since Jan. 1. ,1923, he has served a? chief.DEATH CLAIMS SHELBY MAN, 75;SHELBY — Roger Heath, 75, native of Chepstow*. Monmouthshire, England, died Tuesday at Shelby Memorial hospital after a lingering illness.Ifeath came to the United Stales at an early age and moved here two years ago irom Texas.Surviving are three sisters.
