BIDDEFORD DAILY JOURNOEagles To Face St. Ignatius In Sunday Opener,i,i ~mm mm ■ mmLocals Seen To j; S Have Strengthj St. Louis high will open its ‘ baseball season Sunday afternoon when in Goodall Park, Sanford, at 3 o'clock the Eagles tangle with the St. Ignatius high pastimers. The Eagles seem to be plenty strong this year with a near veteran infield supporting its cause. ; Coach Dave Walsh has been send- ! iing his charges through terrific ! workouts in an attempt to get ' i them in perfect condition and ! while he won’t say much about I the way his club stacks up its a | cinch that unless internal trouble pops up along the line the local parochials will be in top shape all i the way.St. Ignatius Coach Jim Keefe has nine veterans in togs but ! actually only three players, Gcr-! aid Martel, Pepsi Huard and Ro-I land Jacques have had any real i experience. Martel and Huard will be Sunday’s battery for the Saints with Jacques probably at shortstop. A glance at St. Louis’ probable starting lineup shows that there is only one starter who has not been tried. He is Ray Auger who has bet'ii working out at third base all week and who apparently satisfies Walsh’s taste for a hot corner man.Holding down first base will be Joe Lauzon versatile southpaw while at second will be Roger Legare. a neat ball-handler.Dick Dutremble, who in prac:I tice the other day whacked out a 350-foot, wallop, will be at I shortstop while big Dick Moore will be at the left field post.Roaming the center field area will be Captain Red Genest while . Bob Cote will be in right field.Dick Potvin will do the catch-, ing and Don Mathieu, a veteran hurler, will be on the mound.
