(UPI) — Coal miners went on strike in five states today to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the progress of contract talks with the nation’s soft coal industry.The wildcat walkout, first mass strike in the industry since 1950, closed mines in Pennsylvania. The men arc expected to be hospitalized in Pittsfield.The search began at 7:15 a.m when the pilot of the plane, Robert Breen, 25. of Providence, R.I., awakened Mrs. Charlotte Morgan of Beach Road, Hinsdale. He told her he had walked from the wreck out of the rugged back country to find help. He was wrapped in a blanket he had taken from a cabin owned by Daniel J. Delorey.Dazed and bleeding from head wounds, he was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital by the Hinsdale ambulance after Mrs. Morgan, whose home has no telephone, called state police from the home of Thomas Armodie at the foot of Beach Road. He is reported in fair condition. He had a skull fracture and severe head and face lacerations.BnlleiinThe two air crash victims, Alex Mazika and George Me-Namee, both 20 years old. were carried on stretchers out of the October Mountain woods at noon by volunteers. They were taken to Pittsfield General Hospital by a Civil Air Patrol ambulance from Westover Air Force Base. There was mi report on their condition at an early hour this afternoon.four-wheel drive pick-up trucks up Beach Road clogged with melting ice and snow.Volunteers in the search were from Washington, Becket, Dalton and Hinsdale. From the Dalton Avenue State Police barracks were troopers George Kane and Bruce Sedgewick. The Hinsdale ambulance and the Dalton P'ire Department’s ambulance were waiting at the De-lorey’s home for the rescue group.Relatives of the victims were flying to Pittsfield late this morning.Breen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Breen of Providence. The pilot’s father is a special assistant to the attorney general of Rhode Island.
