Hall, by a majority that forebodes any possibility of a contest, for there was nothing of the close vote kind to the contest—it was an avalanche of votes in favor of the standard bearer of the Independent Club against the standard-bearer of the recently-organized La rede Club.Notwithstanding the fact that the election was one of the most interesting held in this city In years and a total of 1J 74 votes were polled In the four wards of the city, there was not a single disturbance—it was simply a battle of ballots instead a battle characterized by riots, fights, etc. Leopold© Villegas as the candidate for mayor received a heavy vote, in fact the main contest hinged on the mayoralty, but the entire Independent (’lub ticket was swept in by similar majorities to that given the mayoral ty candidate, in fact some of the city, officers having opposition received as’ heavy vote as Mr. Villegas did.
