FisheriiiBranchOn Saturday, March 28, 1970 Mr. and Mrs. Ern Jenken held “Open House” to friends and relatives to mark the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. Some hundred well-wish ers dropped in to offer them their congratulatioas. It was a full and very happy day for the honored couple.Sandwiches, cake and cookies along with tea or coffee were served to all who came and stayed for a chat.Congratulatory messages were received from Richard Bowles, lieutenant Governor of Manitoba; Premier Ed Schrey-er, Mayor Steven Juba, Prime Minister Trudeau, Bill Uruski, M.L.A. our representative foi St. George Constituency; Waltei Weir, leader of the opposition; and a telegram from her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of England extending her warmest wishes on the celebration of their diamond anniversary. The message was conveyed bv the Queen’s secretary.A message was also received from a former close neighborand friend Dr. Leonard Carversof Sun Diego, Calif, expressingwarmest wishes on behalf of his wife Eleanor and himself. This letter so warm in sentiment, they prize very much, too.A special prayer was read for them bv Mr. I. Reimer andWa few hymns also were sung on this special occasion.Mr. Jenken was born at Westminister Township, Ontario, in 1886. His wife Mabel was born in Woodstock, Ontario in 1887.They w-ere married at Middle-miss, Ontario and moved to Fisher Branch in the year 1912 to settle on a homestead.Their first place of abode was a small log cabin and their only means of transportation a yoke of oxen. The team was also their only source of farm power.Mr. and Mrs. Jenken received many lovely gifts as well as a number of cash donations and numerous cards.Out of town relatives at theC2(s\2((sJ1233123IctcI1i\\\t1£ttCVtIincanniversary were: metr aaugn-ter Mrs. Edna Kenny, grand daughter, Sandy and husband Larry Holland and great grand son Larry Holland; daughter * Norma and her husband Clifford Hagglund, grandchildren Cathy and Craig Hagglund, alsograndchildren Karen and husband Brandy Bjomson and great grandson Brandur Bjomson, all of Wpg; sister-in-law,Mrs Grace Jenken. of Lundar:nephew William Jenken of Wpg. and grand-nephew and grand-niece Robert and Diana Duncan of Wpg.; out of town friends were: George Caners, Marie Oaners, Mrs. Mary Chipara, Mrs. Ralph Rampersad, Ina Caners, Cathy Gauthier, Mr. md Mrs. L.
