dents and Samuel Clemens High School students got to lake a trip back in time last week when the Clemens High Class of 2000 unearthed a time capsule they buried when they were in the first grade.We had a ball, said Bonnie Nichols of Schertz Elementary. We got to reminisce with some of the kids we hadn't seen.Nichols said that the teachers decided it would be fun for the class to bury a time capsule, since they would be the first graduating class of the new millennium. Among the items in the capsule were newspapers, a Weekly Reader, classroom pictures, a list of what each child said he or she wanted to grow up to be, a T-shirt and students'and grandparents, former Schertz Mayor Earl Sawyer, Clemens High School seniors and all Schertz Elementary students attended the ceremony, as did retired teachers Maxine and Lulrell Walts, who have a school named after them.At the ceremony, current Schertz Elementary principal Linda Cannon introduced Barbara Jordan Elementary School principal Marion Dolford, who was principal of Schertz Elementary in 1988 and 1989, when the capsule was buried.I'm really speechless, Dolford told the audience. They asked me to conduct this program this afternoon, but really I'm overwhelmed.He added, It's really great toDolford spoke about the class of 2000 and how their teachers and parents worked to makethem the first Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District class to bury a lime capsule.The first grade class recited the same poem which the first grade class of 1988-1989 recited when they were first-graders, and Gloria Spenralh, who was the first grade music teacher in 1988-1989, sang the Schertz Elementary School song.Clemens High School senior Robin Bruce was chosen by the other seniors present to speak for them at the ceremony.
