Wed Sixty-Three Years.The following from the Viiisca (la) Letter will be of iuterest to many ofcur re. d rs:La9t Thursday was the f»3rd anniversary of the marriage of Thos. Moore and lJettie Spargur, and the day was observed by about bfiy of their many relatives and friends. They were wedat Spargur riill, Highland county, Ohio.March 12, 1840, and have since trod life’s rugged pathway together. They came to Villisca among the iirst settlers in this part of lows, in the early 5 J's and have since resided here.i — - ■— — ^ —They have children, grandchildren and great-grandchildrei’, and on this anniversary day a 4 generation picture was taken, all residents of Villisca Thos. Moore, his son Joseph Moore, his son S. P. Moore, and his sou ForestINearly a year ago a four generation picture was taken in which Mrs. Mooie, daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter were grouped. It isindeed seldom that two four-generationpictures cau be taken ill the samrfamily.Father and Mother Moore are both iu good health for old people, and are 83 years of age. Mrs. Moore is unable to walk, because of a hip being frac tured by a fall several years ago.Those present ei j »yed the day greatly, and partook of an excellent dinner and departed wishing their friend uiauy returns of the day.The following letter from J. A. W Spargur. of Carmel, Ohio, was read:Dear Uncle and Aunt:—I very much regret my inability to be present and participate in the celebration of the sixty-third anniversary of your wedding day. I am very sure that I would enjoy the day very much, but while 1 cun not be present in person, I can and will be in mind, and I most heartily wish that you may both live to enjoy many more anniversaries of your wed ding day. It is a subject of qongratu-iation that you have been permitted to live harmoniously together so very long in the happy i elation of husband and wife, sharing eacn other’s joys and sor rows, successes aud disappointments, each striving to add happiness to the life of the other. Bixty-three years as husband aud wife is a rare occurrence; a length of time nearly equal to twogeneration:. Estimating the population of the earth at fifteen hundred millions, nearly three billion brimim being have been born into the vtfppld, lived their varied h n*th of of time and passed on to the unknown future state, since your wedding day. Sixty three yearn ago Iowa was a territory, and the In d-iiins roamed the beautiful valleys of the NodawajF. Railroads were few and confined to the eastern states. Telegraphy was unknown, while now every continent and every civilized country is in instant communication with eachother, by telegraph, by telephone by cable, or by the more recent and wonderful Marconi system of transmuting messages by the Hertzian wave system, thousands of miles over the ocean, and without wire?, aatd at a speed that wouid pasB several times around theworld in one second of time, the telephone connects neighbor with neighboraud city with city, but why try to enumerate the modern inventions and discoveries when they amount tothous-#auds, all of which have a tendency to add to the comfort and lighten the burdens of the hum n race.
