Preschool Learning CenterInvites Public To Help Them Celebrate 40 YearsIt’s been 40 years since the Preschool Learning Center opened its’ doors.The center will be celebrating Sunday April 25 and they encourage the public to join in.The Preschool Learning Center, located at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, will be holding a luncheon which will include BBQ pork sandwiches, chips, salads and plenty of desserts. There will be a free will donation for the meal.Happy D Klown will be in attendance with many fun activities for kids of all ages. Weather permitting there will be a bouncy house outside. Also offered will be face painting, cotton candy, balloons, games and much, much more.The Preschool Learning Center originated as a group of mothers who were interested in their children getting into a social situation before they entered into the public school. From this it grew, and in 1970 it was incorporated and a teacher was hired. The program was originally set up with one permanent teacher and the parents worked as volunteers.In 1970, Kitty DeBoer was the teacher, and over the years, the preschool had seen many other teachers come and go. Teachers have included Sheri Hinman, Joyce Ude, Nelda Flower, Betty Leonhardt, Laurel Napier, Cheryl Seachord, Bonnie Hall, Connie Mahlman, Terese Peregrine, Peggi Kelly, Sheryl Barker, Liz Dolph, Jody Williams, Helen Neuhaus, Dianne Barker, Tammie Schmidt, Sheri Christiansen, Sandy Reikofski, Angie Dragoo and Sara Stewart.The preschool was started in 1970 with an enrollment of 20 some children. This included eight three-year-olds who met on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and 14 fourryear-olds who met on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Over the years, the program has continued to grow and expand. Currently the 3-4 class meets Tuesday and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the 4-5 class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.It has been a tradition from the beginning of the Preschool Learning Center to offer two programs throughout the years for parents to enjoy. These include a Christmas program and a graduation ceremony. These programs are still enjoyed today.The preschool continues to be governed by a volunteer board of parents who oversee the various business aspects of the preschool. Numerous parents have dedicated their time and talents over the years to ensure that the Preschool Learning Center exists for years to come.Help the local preschool celebrate 40 years of serving the area on April 25.
