WALKERA Large Company Assist in the Celebration of the Event at the Daughter's Home.s0PimattcfctPMMMMOn the third day of April, 1855, in the town of Weathersfield, Stark county, Illinois, Bev. Wro. Winn, a Baptist minister, spoke the words that united, in the bonds of matrimony, James Walker and Miss Sarah Jane Way. Fifty years later, after the struggles and successes of half a century, they celebrated the auspicious event Monday, at the home of their eldest daughter, Mrs. Alfred Modlin, seven miles south-east of Eldora,Mr. and Mrs. Walker came up from Des Moines, where they now reside, that they might celebrate so important an. event among their long time friends of their active lives. Soon after their marriage they located in Grundy county, spring of 1850, thus identifying* themselves with the strugr gles and privations of the early pioneers. In 188(5; they came to Hardin county to the farm now known as the Rockwell farm, and later to Eldora, where they resided several years . until their removal to Des Moines-In spite of the rain that fell- in torrents during the early part of Mondajr about sixty guests gathered there. At noon an elegant dinner was served, followed by a social hour, ‘‘Uncle Jimmy” and “Aunt Jane,” as their friends love to call them, appeared at their best, and we could but wonder that they showed so little sign of the half century 's experiences. In behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Walker, Rev. W. E. Stanley returned thanks to the donors for the numerous and ‘valuable gifts received. He spoke of the noble example these people had given the age, of fidelity to the marriage vow. Rev. Davis, of the East Side M. E, church, followed with remarks and prayer. It was an occasion entered into heartily, and enjoyed by all, and none more than by the principals, Mr. and Mrs.W al ker. George Walker and wife, William, Ethel and Georgie: Mrs. Mark Furman, of Des Moines; Gertrude and Margaret Furman: Frank Walker, Rev. B. A. Davis, wife and son, Watson: Harry Martin, wife and daughter, Elinor; George Cobb and wife, S. S. Wilcox and wife,Bessie Brownell, Clare Putnam, C. McKeen Duren and daughter, Mabel; George Jepsen and wife, Mrs. Otis Hall, Mrs. Jane Watson, Mrs. Louise Moser, Clara Baskin, Mrs. Jj. A. Daggett, Mrs Kate Furman and daughter, Vera, and Henry Tha-mev and wife.The absent were Lionel Walker, O’Brien county, Iowa; Mrs. Lane, Indian Head, Canada.James Walker and wife are the parents of twelve children, of whom four died in infancy. They have had twenty-nine grand-children, all of whom are living except four; and live greatgrandchildren, of whom all but one are now living.
