C. H. Beyler, Civil War Vet 'And-Former Supreme CourtCrier, 91 ■ Years Old TodayPioneer Who Hauled Stone For Mendota Hospital Passes MilestoneChristian Henry Beyler, for almost 50 years crier of the slate siipremc court, a pioneer resident of the dry and a Civil war veteran, will observe the 91st anniversary of his birth tomorrow at his home, 411 Sp Park St. lt;.Mr. Beyl or was appointed crier of the supreme court under Chief Justice Dixon'in 1878, when there were but tlrrce justices on the court, and held that position continuously until 1917. Poor health has since confined him to his home. Judge Dixon said of hhn, “He is an experienced, intelligent, competent, faithful and most unobtrusive assistant,”On the occasion of his 79th birthday. the court paid tribute to Mr. Beyler for his many years of faithful* service. A lar.ee bouquet of carnations and smilax was placed in front of his customary seat, and Judge J. B. Winslow complimented him on his service.Mr. Beyler was horn in Locwen-stein, War ten bur in 1938 and came to America when but 17 years of age. He came directly to Milwaukee u\ion his arrival in this* country, and a few days later walked to Madison, arriving here in time to witness a 4th of July .celebration three days later than the regular anniversary.He followed the teaming* businessCHldSTIAN H. BEYLERand after until his appointment, as crier- hauled much of the stone ffor the state hospital at Mendota, and occasionally carried passengers- to paints as far west as Prairie du Chiem In 1861 he waspnarried, but three years later his wife died. lie was married for a second time in 1358. Three children were born of his first union, and four of his second.He enlisted in 1S61 at break of the Civil warinthe siege of Vicksburg,ror many years, prior to the warmustered'out of service in Nashville, Tenn.
