THERESA BANNISHrsir-ui;*d-up;id;Ml,ryA large group of friend* and relatives gathered throughout the day on Sunday last at the Canadian Legion Hall, to honor Mrs. Theresa Ihnnish on the occasionlWth therbirthday.ien(**»rotasthehisneastit.re-i aatehear*areinWearing a smart dark dress brightened with a jaunty Jabot of crisp whit^ lace and a corsage of red roses Mrs. Bannish appeared to be many years younger than her 100 years as she pre sided os er the cutting of the huge birthday cake which was decorated with candles and 100 pink sugar roses Members of the family were present at the event from all parts of Canada, one granddaughter. Mrs. Janet Styles, having come all the way from Vancouver Due to the serious strikesituation m England, a grandson.Archie Hammond R.C.A.F was pre vented from making » flying trip home as he had planned.Messages o f congratulation were received by Mrs. Bannishfrom the Queen, the Lieutenant-1 Govenor o f Manitioba J . S .i McDianmd and Premier Camiebed of Manitoba. Several bouquets of cut flowers and flowering plants were also received from well-wishers.Mrs Bannish was bom onApril 1st. 1857 in Narol, Poland, and came to Canada with herhusband. John, in 1904. They settled in the Selkirk district and farmed f o r many years a t Cloverdaie. Mr. Bannish died in 1936Of their eight chidren, six are still living, Katherine, with whom Mrs. Bannish makes her home, Joe, Stanley, Alex, John andChristine; Pearl and Peter havingpassed away. There are 22 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Her sons Joe and Alex, sorts-in-laws Andrew Banash and John Grochowich, and grandsonsFrank and James are all employed at the Manitoba Rolling Mills.Mrs. Bannish is remakably active, enjoys excellent he* 1th and good vision. She assists with the household chores and takes a keen interest in the doings of her family and in her church
