Former Stafford Winners Headline Spring SizzlerSTAFFORD — Since 1967 when the Stafford Springs Motor Speedway first played host to asphalt racing, 199 events have been run. Thirty-two different drivers have snared feature wins, and of the 25 competitors who are still listed as active in the modified ranks, 21 are confirmed entries in the April 11 running of the Spring Sizzler. The 25 account for a grand total of 180 wins at the Connecticut track. In addition to the active drivers that will be competing, when you add the retired pilots who will be attending the affair either as officials of the meet or as members of the competition board, you push the iwn total represented to 189, just 10 short of the total winners possible.Mix together some 80 additional drivers, and Spring Sizzler 1976 shapes up to be an 80-lap no-holds-barred slugfest of the highest degree. As many as six 15-lap qualifying heats will determine the starting field for the $20,000 affair.Fred DeSarro, Ed Flemke, Bugs Stevens, and Richie Evans, all former winners of the event, will seek to become the firstdriver to capture the event twice, while Winston Racing Champions Sonny Seamon, Goeff Bodine, Fred Harbach. Maynard Troyer, and Satch Worley will all be looking for their first Sizzler triumphs. In addition to the divergent entry list, competitors from different branches of racing will get into the act. Eastern drag racing star Bill Flynn has filed an entry with Lou Torro at the wheel, while speedway officials hope to secure a ride for SCCA National Champion Bob Tullius. Tullius, who hails from Leesburg, Va., is already scheduled to compete in the April 10th small block event.Suffield LL Holds Tryouts SaturdaySUFFIELD - The Suffield Little League will conduct tryouts for 10-12 year-old boys who are currently listed in the farm division on April 4th at Spaulding School.
