Bids were opened by the Ohio Department of Highways in Columbus Tuesday for relocation and construction of a two-mile stretch of Rt. 7 starting inside of Brilliant’s north corporation line and ending a half mile south of Cross Creek, west of the present route in the southend of Mingo Junction. The apparent low bidder for the divided four-lane highway project was A. J. Bettes, Inc., of Norwalk, Ohio, with a bid of $2,149,631. The state’s estimate was$2,546,400. Completion date was set for Sept. 10, 1960. The relocated Route 7 will enter Mingo Junction at the southern end of Broadway. Mingo’s Gladys Avenue will be extended southward to give access to Good Mill Avenue from the limited access facilities. The above sketch shows the overall Route 7 project with solid black line showing the (F430) phase that was opened for bids yesterday. Bids for the Mingo Junction Route 7 project and Steubenville’s High Street Thoroughfare are expected to be opened in July.
