TWO SURVIVORSOf Sultana Disaster Live in Jefferson CountyRomulus Tolbert, of Saluda, and JohnMaddox, of KentFormei Recently Suffered Stroke of Paialysis - 2,500 Lost.Ron.ulus Tolbert, a venerable resident of Saluda township, is in a critical condition as the result of a paralytic strobe. He is a civil waf veteran and is one of the few living survivors of the Sultana disaster, when that steamer, laden with Uniontroops, was blown up in the Mississippi river. Mr. Tolbert was among the soldiers aboard the boat and he was able to swim to the shore following ti e explosion.Mr. Tolbert and Mr. John Maddox, who resides near Kent, were both on the Sultana, retun ing from1 Ander-sonviile prison, where they had been released by exchange of prisoners. Over 2,500 soldiers were drowned whei the Sultana blew up.
